I was requested in a text message how to make the pop up cup cake art that I did the other day for the M.A.R.F. fundraiser. It is pretty simple to do, but just too much information to type back in a text. So I promised I would show how I did it here. I followed the same basic supply list as was done for the cupcake art.
The few items you’ll need to have to make your own pop up specimen art are as follows:
Card Stock
A punch (I’m using this butterfly punch, My co-worker purchased it at Micheal’s)
A frame and a corresponding mat that fits the frame
Some assorted scrapbook paper

And pop up dots (We got these at Micheal’s).

First, take your card stock and cut it to about a 0.5″ – 0.75″ smaller than the mat and then tape it to the back.

Punch out all your butterflies or whatever punch you chose. I laid them out just to see how they would line up before I started applying the pop up dots.

The pop up dots ended up being too big just as is. So I cut them into quarters. They just fit right near the top of the butterfly. With the bumblebees I cut them in half just to make them last longer. See it makes a neat 3-D effect.

For placement of each of the butterflies, I just eyeballed it. I already knew I could do five rows by five columns, so getting down to accurately place them by measuring and calculating would have been too tedious.

While I was punching out the butterflies my handy helper was coloring.

3 sheets of white card stock taped to the table. He had lots of fun.

Here is the finished product. I’m not sold on the frame. I thought painting it would help from the not so pretty gold it used to be. But as I was spray painting it just didn’t go well. So I’m only show it framed for what it looks like finished. This frame is an 8X10 with it matted to a 5X7. But I think it turned out super cute despite the not so great frame. I still need to take a picture of the cup cake one I did for myself, but that is for another day.

I hope this was useful! Have a great week!

Super useful! I’m impressed at how well you can line it up by eye. It looks like you went to the effort to measure-and-mark, and that’s just daunting.
Thanks Kelli!
